The Pom Maker, available from http://www.scoutandcokids.com

Lewes is a town full of makers.

From wallpaper designers to textile designers, from cabinet makers to upholsterers, from illustrators to animators, this town really does have it all. But aren’t we all makers, to one degree or another? God knows how many kids costumes I’ve cobbled together, I’ve tried my hand at crocheting, sewing, patchworking and of course cake decorating – albeit badly! The culture of ‘making’ is stronger than ever, finding time to create is proving to be an outlet that more and more people are turning to.

Right now I am sitting in the car on my way to the Wowo campsite, our car is so full that the kids are having to hug their knees and I have an enormous bag full of baby bottles, nappies, beakers, crockery and cutlery on my lap. I spend so much time rushing around at home spinning all the plates that come with family life and I never take time to just sit down and make something, to take a mental break and enjoy the process of developing a creative skill.

The Pom Maker

To remedy this I have packed a gorgeous ‘Pom Maker’ which I got from Lewes’ own fabulous online boutique Scout and Co. as well as a bag of wool. I haven’t made a pompom since I was at least 7 but seeing as though they seem to be having a bit of a moment (if you have been to Popsicle in Lewes you’ll know what I mean) I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon and make some pompoms whilst camping. I’ll be posting my progress (or lack thereof) on my The Lewes Home pages using my hashtag #leweslovesmaking.

I would love it so much if you could join me

If you find yourself making something – whether as a professional at work in your studio or just personally at home on the sofa in front of the new season of Game of Thrones (or is that just me?) please do take a photo and share it on your own social media pages using the same hashtag #leweslovesmaking. It would be so great if we could all embrace our creative sides and celebrate our creations no matter how big or small, how professional or otherwise. I can’t wait to see what everyone is up to!

Let’s spread the making love!
