Welcome to The Lewes Home
I’m Jo Jackson, an ex-educational consultant and teacher, a now-social media manager and a very busy mum to three young children living in the beautiful town of Lewes, East Sussex.
I am absolutely obsessed with interior design and have been ever since we bought our first flat in 2009. It all started with a lovely mid-century sideboard that we found for our living room and my love of interiors has grown and grown ever since. It’s hard to pinpoint my taste as I can get just as excited about Victorian cornicing as I do about Georgian paint colours, Art Deco club chairs, Ercol Sofas, Crittall windows and polished concrete flooring! I really do appreciate the beauty in all sorts of design that history has to offer and getting it to work together in a fresh and harmonious way is a dream for me.
My own Lewes home…
A year ago we moved into our first whole-house – exciting! There is so much work to be done to make our house feel like a home and although progress on this will inevitably be slow (I’ve been staring at the same five sample-shades of dark blue and teal on my living room wall for months now!) I have been meticulously designing each room on my Pinterest boards and I know that eventually we will GET THERE (did I mention I have three kids??) I’m sure you know the feeling…
It’s not just interiors though that really makes me tick – I am also just as in love with residential architecture and am fascinated by the way house design has changed throughout history alongside changes and attitudes to family life and parenting.
So, why am I here?
This is why I have decided to start this blog – as an ode to Lewes. This incredibly special town has fine examples of buildings from the wonderful Lewes Castle of 1069 all the way through to truly amazing eco-build houses today. This isn’t all though, Lewes is absolutely filled with creative talent, from cutting edge architects to award-winning interior designers to gifted crafts-people to independent and beautiful lifestyle boutiques. This place is a celebration of it all, it is my online-home, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I know I will enjoy writing it.
